South Carolina truck driving schools are located throughout this states scenic regions.

In South Carolina, your local DMV and the DMV website have information on CDL class licenses, endorsements, restrictions and more. For all the commercial driving information you need, pick up a Commercials Drivers Manual from your DMV or request that one is sent to you.

A commercial driver’s license, which is usually referred to as a CDL license, is a special type of license that allows a person to drive commercial vehicles. A commercial vehicle is any type of vehicle that transports passengers or goods. Buses, cargo vans, trailers and coaches are examples of commercial vehicles. Additionally, any vehicle that is designed to transport 16 or more passengers may be considered a commercial vehicle.

What are the requirements for obtaining a CDL license in the state of South Carolina?

All drivers must be at least 18 years old before getting a CDL license. However, drivers must be 21 years old before they can drive a commercial vehicle outside of the state of South Carolina. The state of South Carolina also requires that a person be in reasonably good health before obtaining a CDL license. Impairments of the hands and the foot, epilepsy and uncontrolled diabetes are some conditions that may disqualify a person from getting a CDL license.

On the day of the CDL test, the person will have to bring a medical certification form, a valid form of identification, proof of automobile insurance and proof of residency. Drivers are also required to fill out the Application for South Carolina Credential form and Affidavit of Previous Driver’s License form. The cost of filling out an Application for South Carolina Credential Form is $15.00. The CDL license tests consist of three parts: vision, knowledge and road test.

It is important to note that drivers are required to pass a knowledge test on every vehicle that they intend to operate. The cost of taking each test is $2.00. The road test consists of a pre-trip inspection of the car as well as on and off road driving. The cost of taking the road test is $12.50.

People also need to be cognizant of the fact that when they apply for their CDL, the South Carolina Department of Motor vehicles will automatically check their prior driving history. A history of driving problems may disqualify a person from getting a CDL. Currently, there are 35 DMV offices in the state of South Carolina.
